Binance was accused of money laundering for $2.35 billion

As Reuters found out, over 5 years, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, laundered $2.35 billion in illegal funds. The agency relied on court records, statements from law enforcement agencies and blockchain data.
According to the agency, among the illegal payments that passed through Binance from 2017 to 2021 were lost millions from Eterbase. In 2020, the hacker group Lazarus hacked a small Slovakian crypto exchange and stole approximately $5.4 million worth of virtual currency.
Hours later, the hackers are said to have opened at least 20 anonymous accounts on Binance, allowing them to convert the stolen funds and hide the money trail. This fact follows from the accounts that Binance shared with the police, Reuters pointed out.
Blockchain data also showed that for the past 5 years, the crypto exchange has been processing transactions for the world's largest drug market, the darknet site Hydra. It is noted that sellers and buyers used the exchange to make and receive crypto payments in the amount of $780 million.
